I’m Laura. I originally come from New Zealand, lived in Japan for three years where I started this blog, then moved to the US where I married my awesome husband. In September 2014 we welcomed our daughter, Vee (for the sake of the blog, anyway). A few things that I like (except Vee, who seems to have been the subject of the last few posts)
Kyle (Aka my husband)
Kyle originates from Ohio. Over 6 years ago, he made the incredibly wise decision to move to Japan. I am super grateful for this, as a couple of years later I showed up. We enjoyed adventuring together around Japan and Asia in general for a couple of years, before he moved home in August 2012. We survived doing the long distance thing for a terribly long year and we eventually both ended up in small town Ohio. Of all the places I expected to end up, small town Ohio was not one of them.
I took my first international trip when I was 18. It was a month long school trip to Thailand. Since then I have become a little addicted. Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to travel to a number of places. I still get giddy about travel planning, and am always planning my next adventure. Since Vee has come along, we have had to temporarily put travel on the back burner, but we will be getting her first passport soon, and take up the travelling again!
I was awesome. Totally worked out. Totally looked great. Ran a lot. Not in these shoes.
Then I moved to America. Then I had a baby. I REALLY need to get back on the bandwagon!
I love to cook. I love to eat. I get hangry if I don’t eat enough/ on time/ any time. I really, really, really love food!
(The photo is of my favourite ramen. It was the best ramen ever. I used to go there on a weekly basis and enjoy. A lot. Then the ramen shop closed down. There are heaps of other ramen shops around, but never will you find a bowl so rich and delicious. Writing about it breaks my heart a little more).
I don’t necessarily like doing my thesis all the time, but I do it. I am crazy and somehow think doing a Master’s thesis with a newborn (or not so newborn) is a good idea. I am looking at issues teachers in the US and NZ face teaching math(s) to ELLs. Tis Fun. I also recently recieved my Ohio teacher certification, and hope to get back in the classroom next year. We will see!
Anyway, that’s me. Writing about my life, Vee, fitness, travel and transitioning to my new life with Kyle :).
